About Alexander

I started messing with mud concurrently while learning to walk. My first playmates were red earthworms.

At age six I planted squash behind the shed and forgot all about them until October, when the fruits one day startled me with their existence.

At age 23 I graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute with a BFA in Ceramics Sculpture.

Then for forty years I worked in the woods - mostly in timber.

Once retired, I went back to hand building clay pots for use in the garden and in the home.

As the clay drew me in, the pots grew more compelling. That's been nearly seventeen years.

I still work clay every day. Why wouldn't I?

About the Pottery

Alexander uses stoneware and porcelain clays. Pieces are usually glazed, then reduction fired to 2300 degrees F (cone 10). Some are soda fired.

AKVK birdbaths and sculptures can be displayed outdoors year-round. Most garden sculptures have drain holes and can also be used as planters. All outdoor pieces can tolerate freezing temperatures as long as water does not accumulate inside.

Eating ware (pitchers, bowls, mugs) are food and dishwasher safe.
